The 'Field Notes' series

An ongoing series exploring how we document and recall our journeys through the landscape, and our personal encounters with nature.

Each piece is painted directly onto the cloth-bound cover of a sketchbook, notebook or travel journal. Paint is allowed to bleed into the linen, and the book cover itself - including its bookmark and any printed writing - is allowed to show through. These energetic paintings are an extension of my sketchbook drawings, as if the landscape seen has recorded itself across the book.

These paintings have proved popular with clients and competitions. One was selected for the Westmorland Landscape Prize (2019), and another was shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
